This is one of my favouriate targets to look at. Through my telescope on a clear, crisp night, it looks very much like the image above. A beautiful, haunting gray smoke ring dangling in the depths of space. I don't recall yet picking out the central star - and with just an 8” telescope, that might not be possible (or at least just on the edge of possible, as that star is around magnitude 15).
